Cribbing refers to the use of solid, sturdy blocks(typically made of hardwood or high-strength plastic)that are placed underneath a lifted load to provide a secure and stable mechanical support. It is the single most important safety practice when using an Air Bag Jack. The fundamental rule is:You never trust the air pressure in the bag to hold the load. The bag is a lifting tool, not a holding tool.It is susceptible to sudden failure from punctures, leaks,or air supply loss.As soon as the desired lift height is achieved, trained personnel immediately build a stable box-like structure(a"crib")with the blocks underneath the load. The air can then be slowly released from the bag, transferring the entire weight onto the solid, reliable cribbing. This protects both the operators working under or around the load and the victims in a rescue scenario from a sudden, catastrophic collapse.
